Richard Beaton,

Chairman

Richard Beaton became Chairman of GroupBC during its management buyout in 2014. Richard has run market leading software vendors in the UK for over 30 years, previously founding and establishing three software companies which subsequently became market leaders in their fields.

Experienced in mergers and acquisitions, Richard has bought in excess of 20 software companies and delivered considerable returns for private equity throughout his career.

Wes Simmons,

Chief Executive Officer

Wes Simmons has been Chief Executive Officer of GroupBC since January 2018. Wes started his working life as a quantity surveyor and has spent the majority of his career providing software solutions to all aspects of the construction industry.

Wes has worked for major software companies such as SAP and Unisys as well as several key players in the construction marketplace. Before joining GroupBC Wes was the Managing Director of Eque2, the leading supplier of financial systems to UK contractors where he led the transaction of taking Eque2 out of Sage and doubling the business in three years.

Stephen Crompton,

Chief Product Officer

As an Oxford mathematics graduate, Steve began his career as a mathematical modeller for the environmental consultancy where he became involved in the development of the information management and collaboration solution which became Business Collaborator Ltd.

Stephen has been instrumental to the success of GroupBC, steering its development and roadmap to ensure continued satisfaction and returned value through innovative solutions to business problems. Stephen is an active member of the UK BIM Alliance Technology Group, which aims to ensure the interoperability and the development of enabling technologies supporting the adoption of BIM Level 2 and beyond.
 

Sanjeev Shah,

Partner Strategy and International Development Director

In 1995, whilst working on a European research project into web-based collaboration, Sanjeev recognised the commercial potential of such a product and lobbied for his former company to build upon the resulting solution, eventually founding Business Collaborator Ltd in 1998.

Over the years Sanjeev has continued to identify and develop Innovative products and services, leading extensive research and development into cutting edge technologies (such as the semantic web) and converted the business from a Perpetual to SaaS based model in 2001, novel at that time.  As a founder of GroupBC, he was closely involved with the BIM Tech Alliance working party that led to the UK BIM mandate, and continues to help customers benefit from the latest developments in digital information management by building key partnerships within the industry. Sanj works very closely with customers and partners that want to push the boundaries of digital technologies, helping them to make better decisions.

Jane Mercer,

Chief Finance Officer

Jane trained as a chartered accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers before joining Clearwater advising on merger and acquisition deals. Jane left to become CFO of Tekton with Richard Beaton in 2006, completing five acquisitions, two private equity deals and an exit to Sage.

Jane became the Chief Finance Officer for GroupBC in 2014. As well as for GroupBC, Jane is also heading up the finance divisions at Deep-Secure, Eque2 and Open ECX.
 

Stuart Bell,

Sales and Marketing Director

Stuart joined GroupBC in 2017, with many years’ experience creating, leading and developing teams in the supply of software and business management systems into the construction sector. Stuart has a deep understanding of construction information management processes and systems, and an unwavering desire to deliver solutions that make users’ lives easier and their businesses more profitable.

Stuart previously developed and lead the commercial team at Union Square accelerating adoption of information management solutions to many of the UK’s leading designers and contractors, building a client base from 50 to 500 with 9 years, until their acquisition by Deltek. Prior to that he worked for Microsoft’s lead partner in construction selling finance and ERP solutions.

Paul Houghton,

Product Consultant and
User Experience Manager

A mathematics and computing graduate from the University of Bath, Paul started his career on placement at the pre-cursor to GroupBC, working on the nascent BC product.  Two years at IBM on a major financial project in Belgium followed.  Afterwards he returned to GroupBC in a diverse set of roles; as a consultant, managing the solutions development team and product management.  Working directly with customers has seen Paul gain an in-depth insight into the challenges facing organisations building and maintaining assets and managing their information.

Since the management buyout of GroupBC in 2014, Paul has served as interim head of marketing, doubled down on product management and spearheaded the renewed focus on user experience across desktop, laptop, tablet and phone devices.  Paul’s focus is now on ensuring that GroupBC elegantly solves industry needs whilst putting the user at the centre of its vision.
 

Bridget Collins,

Lead Trainer

Bridget has over 20 years of professional experience in IT and Systems training and has experience in many different sectors including; insurance, education as well as working for the Post Office Occupational Health Service.

Bridget has delivered GroupBC’s customer training, typically to rave reviews, for more than seven years during the new project implementation stage and on-going planning and training for existing customers.  Bridget is also responsible for delivering internal training on our platform and ISO 27001 training to GroupBC staff, to ensure retention of our important ISO accreditation.

Alistair Watts,

Head of Research and Development

Alistair is another long-standing member of the team, which is testament to company culture and the exciting career progression opportunities available at GroupBC. He joined initially as a placement student, then was appointed as a developer in 2000, before progressing to his current role, thanks to his enjoyment and ability of problem solving.

Recent success has kept Alistair very busy recruiting and mentoring members of his team, as well as advising customers and colleagues on technical matters and ensuring product development stays on track.

Carolyn Sellar,

Head of Support

Carolyn has been part of the GroupBC team since its formation as Business Collaborator in 1998, fulfilling whatever roles deemed necessary to the success of the business such as;  training, customer services, and now drawing on her expertise from these various roles ensures the business runs smoothly and efficiently and in accordance with our Information Security accreditation (ISO 27001).

Carolyn is currently responsible for the customer services, hosting and administration teams, and is tasked with solving any problems preventing our customers or colleagues from being able to work productively.
