Because of the amount of useful material from the recent Better Information Management for the Public Sector webinar it has been split into two parts.

Kicking-off Part 2, Paul Gray, Head of Public Sector at GroupBC introduced “Better Information Management for the Public Sector” and showed how for the past 20 years GroupBC has supported the move from unmanaged digital chaos to a place of trusted project and asset information control.

He stressed that GroupBC has experience of dealing with a varied customer base from small project teams and joint ventures to large scale enterprises in the public & private sector delivering insight, control and information assurance across the complete project to asset lifecycle

Stephen Crompton, CTO at GroupBC started his part of the webinar looking at various surveys including the CIOB and BIM+ 2017 which highlights that 62% of Central Government tenders are not making BIM (Building Information Modelling) mandatory on all projects. So, there is still a lot of work to be done to get the message across of the benefits of BIM.

He also noted that the Public Sector has very different characteristics to the private sector including being highly regulated, and needing a greater level of transparency, therefore this can lead to slow adoption of technology.

The Public Sector also demands governance, compliance and security and GroupBC is well positioned to deliver against these. GroupBC has gone through three UK Government audits in last six months and complies with national standards. We are ISO:27001 certified and a current G-Cloud 9 service provider.

Stephen showed how important it is to deliver and maintain a digital twin and how this delivers real benefits to the asset owner and the end users. The real value of Better Information Management comes with starting with the end in mind and focusing on the value across the lifecycle.

He highlighted how BIM is not just about buildings but also covers infrastructure and rail; and it’s also not just for new builds but also about existing assets.

To support this Stephen showed how both Thames Water and Sainsbury’s are using GroupBC to make better informed decisions with information that is current, trusted and auditable, through user-friendly interfaces, ensuring high adoption rates.
