Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

FAQs

What does BIM Level 2 involve?

BIM Level 2 is a collaborative process where data and information can be used throughout the lifecycle of the project. Not just a 3D model.

GroupBC can ensure your project teams are working to the standards and formats as defined in PAS1192.

How does GroupBC help me meet the UK BIM Level 2 mandate?

GroupBC helped devise the 2011 UK BIM strategy, and remains close to those developing the UK Government’s vision so you can rest assured your processes and systems are aligned to the requirements of BIM Level 2. BC Semantic BIM gives our clients a powerful platform to demonstrate compliance to Level 2 BIM.

Our fully integrated BIM solution comprises:

  • A core BC CDE (Common Data Environment) system that enables you to upload, store and share documents, data and model geometry to ensure a complete digital representation of the built asset
  • The BC BIM module enables the whole project team to view the IFC 3D model and its related data for the lifetime of the asset, cradle to cradle.
  • BC Assure process management module ensures the things you do are correctly documented, follow process, adhere to standards, are easily auditable, meet agreed milestones and are ready for handover.

What are your hosting options?

We offer SaaS or on premise hosting at GroupBC. We were an early innovator in cloud services:

  • We’ve been delivering software in the cloud since 1998 and we’ve always put our users and customers first. One of the best ways to do this is by delivering Software as a Service in a private cloud.
  • We also let our customers self-host if they would prefer complete control over the service they provide to their end users.
  • Whether you are from an SME or global organisation, we believe in giving you the choice.

How resilient is your SaaS hosting and where is it located?

At GroupBC we host our services and solutions for a customer in their own private cloud, which means:

  • Your data is secure and ring-fenced from other data
  • You upgrade to your schedule to help you ensure business continuity

Data centre security

  • For our UK customers this data is held in a secure data centre in the UK so there should be no concern that information is being pushed into services such as Azure or Amazon EC3
  • We use one of the UK’s leading hosting providers, with data backed up in the UK too.
  • If you need more peace of mind you can choose to host BC in a location of your choice.v

Do your software solutions integrate with other applications?

One system doesn’t do it all. That’s why it’s important that your document management, workflow and project collaboration solution should integrate with your enterprise systems.

  • Integration with corporate systems (such as ERP) to give applications access to documents held in BC CDE.
  • Microsoft Office integration for direct access between BC CDE and Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio.
  • Support for QR codes on physical assets linked directly to documents and data.
  • Integration with Active Directory to support single sign-on.
